The Egyptian Center for Public Opinion Research (Baseera) conducted a public opinion poll on
Egyptians’ opinions about the transfer of Palestinians to Sinai. This poll was conducted after
attempts by some countries to convince the Egyptian administration to transfer Palestinians to
Sinai. The poll was conducted through phone interviews on October 18 and 19, 2023.
The results of the poll showed that 77% of Egyptians reject the transfer of Palestinians to Sinai,
while 14% agree and 9% said that they could not decide.
The data show that the percentage of Egyptians who reject the transfer of Palestinians to Sinai
increases from 72% among those with less than an intermediate education to 92% among those
with university education or higher. It also increases from 71% among young people aged 18-29
years to 81% among those who ages 50 years or older.
The respondents were asked about a number of countries to find out to what extent they see these
countries as hostile or friendly. The results indicate that 89% of Egyptians see Palestine as a
friendly country, 3% see it as neutral, and 6% said that they do not know, while only 2% see it as
a hostile country. On the other hand, 88% see Israel as a hostile country (79% see it as very
hostile and 9% see it as hostile), 2% see it as neutral, and 8% said that they do not know, while
only 2% see it as a friendly country.
As for the United States of America, about 14% of Egyptians see it as a friendly country, 15%
see it as neutral, 17% said that they do not know, while 53% see it as a hostile country. The
percentage of those who consider America as a hostile country has increased significantly
compared to the last public opinion poll conducted by the Baseera Center in June 2021 using the
same methodology, as this percentage did not exceed 21%.
