The Egyptian Center for Public Opinion Research (Baseera) conducted its periodic poll about the approval rating of the presidentat the end of his second year in office.
The poll’s results indicate that at the end of President Al-Sisi’s 2nd year in office the percentage of those who approve of the president’s performancewas 91%. This approval rate is higher than the rate observed last month (79%). Worth mentioning that this poll was conducted after the accident of the Egyptian plane that crashed during flying from Paris to Cairo which may increase the president’s approval rate as analyzing the international approval rates shows that president’s approval rate increases in crises times.
Asked if they would elect al-Sisi if presidential elections wereto be held tomorrow, 81% said they would. The other 19% divided equally between those who would not elect him and those who said that their decision would depend on who would run against him.
The percentage of those willing to elect al-Sisi if presidential elections were to be held tomorrow decreases from 86% among those with less than intermediate educationto 69% among those with university education. The percentage of those who said that their decision would depend on who would run against him increases from 6% among those with less than intermediate education to 19% among those with university education.
Methodology:
The poll was conducted using both mobile phones and landlines on a sample of 2600 citizens aged 18 years old and above, and covering all governorates. All phone interviews were conducted from 20 to 24May, 2016. The response rate was around 55%, and the margin of error in the results is less than 3%. The poll was self-funded by Baseera as a part of its social responsibility activities.
