The Egyptian Center for Public Opinion Research (Baseera) conducted its periodic opinion poll about the performance rating of Egypt’s Prime Minister, Sherif Ismail, gauging the public approval of his performance after his first 6 months in office.
The poll shows that 17% of Egyptians rate the prime minister's performance as good; 23% rate it as average; and 12% rate it as bad. Nearly one half of Egyptians are undecided. It is worth noting that in the last poll conducted by Baseera two months after Sherif Ismail took office, about 13% of respondents rated his performance as good; 18% rated it as average; 7% rated it as bad, and 62% were undecided.
The percentage of those who rated the performance of the prime minister as good was 11% in urban governorates, 17% in Lower Egypt, and 20% in Upper Egypt. The percentage of those who rated his performance as bad was 21% in urban governments, 9% in Lower Egypt, and 8% in Upper Egypt. The percentage of those who were undecided was 45% in urban governorates, 47% in northern governorates, and 53% in southern governorates.
Among males, the percentage of those who were undecided was lower (36%) than among women (59%). Most of the males rated the prime ministers’ performance as Average (29%) or bad (15%); and 19% said it was good.
The performance rating differed according to the level of education. The percentage of those describing the prime minister’s performance as average was 18% among people with less than intermediate education and 31% among those with university education. The percentage of those describing the prime minister’s performance as bad increased from 7% among those with less than intermediate education to 21% among those with university education while the percentage of those who were undecided was 58% among those with less than intermediate education and 27% among those with university education.
Methodology:
The poll was conducted using both mobile phones and landlines on a sample of 1526 citizens aged 18 years old and above, and covering all governorates. All phone interviews were conducted from 8 to 9 March, 2016. The response rate was around 42%, and the margin of error in the results is around 3%. The poll was self-funded by Baseera as a part of its social responsibility activities.
